From ATS optimisation to visual hierarchy — everything you need to know to write a resume that gets past the bots and impresses the humans reviewing it.

A resume has two jobs: survive the ATS scan and impress a human. Most candidates optimise for one and fail the other. Here's how to do both.

ATS fundamentals

Use a single-column layout, standard section headings (Experience, Education, Skills), and save as PDF. Avoid tables, text boxes, headers/footers, and images — ATS parsers choke on all of them.

The achievement formula

Every bullet should follow: [Action verb] + [what you did] + [measurable result]. "Led redesign of checkout flow, reducing drop-off by 23% and increasing conversion by $2M annually."
